Norovirus

Norovirus is a highly contagious virus known for causing gastroenteritis, which is inflammation of the stomach and intestines. It is often referred to as the „stomach virus“ or „stomach flu,“ although it is not the influenza virus. Norovirus is characterized by symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and nausea. It spreads through contaminated food and water, as well as through contact with infected individuals or surfaces. Outbreaks are common in crowded environments like cruise ships, schools, and nursing homes. The virus is resilient and can survive on surfaces for long periods, making it challenging to control. Effective prevention measures include proper hand hygiene, thoroughly washing fruits and vegetables, and cooking food to safe temperatures.
